Tesla presented the electric pickup truck at an event in Los Angeles on November 21, 2019. Its angular body, sharp geometric surfaces, and stainless-steel exterior made it visually unlike most conventional pickup trucks. The presentation attracted widespread attention and generated substantial reservation interest.

The Cybertruck was designed with an electric powertrain, a stainless-steel exoskeleton concept, and a covered cargo bed known as the vault. Tesla positioned it against the large pickup-truck market, especially in North America, where full-size pickups are widely used for work and personal transport.

The Cybertruck is distinct from the Tesla Semi, which is a heavy electric tractor-trailer, and the Tesla Roadster, which is a sports-car project. Although unveiled in 2019, Cybertruck deliveries began later, in 2023, after changes and delays to the production program.
