Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first aired in 1993. Its premiere episode, “Day of the Dumpster,” debuted on August 28, 1993, during Fox’s Fox Kids programming block.
The series was produced by Saban Entertainment and adapted character concepts, action footage, costumes, and monsters from Toei’s Japanese Super Sentai franchise. Its first season drew heavily on Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, while the American production added new dialogue, school-life stories, and original footage centered on Angel Grove.
The premiere introduces Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Trini, and Billy as the five “teenagers with attitude” recruited by Zordon. They receive Power Morphers and become the first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers while Rita Repulsa begins her campaign against Earth.
The date is sometimes confused with 1995 because that was the year of the theatrical film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. The television series itself began two years earlier and ran for three seasons, concluding its original run in 1995.
