In what year did Hasbro launch Star Wars: The Black Series?

The story behind the answer

Hasbro launched Star Wars: The Black Series in 2013.

The collection was designed as a more collector-oriented Star Wars action-figure line. Its initial format centered on 6-inch figures, allowing more sculpting detail and articulation than Hasbro’s traditional 3.75-inch figures.

The Black Series began with characters from different parts of the franchise rather than following only one film. Later releases covered the original trilogy, prequels, sequel trilogy, animated productions, video games and other Star Wars stories.

The line is often confused with Hasbro’s earlier 3.75-inch packaging ranges, especially The Vintage Collection. The Black Series is most readily identified by its black packaging and its original 6-inch collector scale, although Hasbro has also used the name for other Star Wars collectibles.
