Disney’s first official LEGO Minifigures series launched in 2016.
LEGO Minifigures Series 16, released in 2016, included a separate Disney-themed collection of blind-bagged figures. The range brought recognizable characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Stitch and Maleficent into LEGO’s collectible minifigure format.
The launch differed from a conventional LEGO playset. Each figure was sold in a sealed packet, encouraging collecting and trading while keeping the identity unknown until opening. This format made the Disney series part of the wider LEGO Minifigures collecting culture.
The year can be confused with earlier Disney LEGO collaborations, including LEGO Duplo products and licensed Disney playsets. Those products existed before the collectible Disney minifigure series, but 2016 marks the first dedicated Disney entry in the LEGO Minifigures theme.
