Beyoncé’s group Destiny’s Child disbanded in 2006. The trio announced the decision after performing at the 2005 World Tour, and the group’s final studio album, Destiny Fulfilled, had been released in 2004.
Destiny’s Child began in Houston in the early 1990s and originally performed under the name Girl’s Tyme. The best-known lineup consisted of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Hits such as “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious” made the group one of the most successful female vocal groups in recording history.
The members continued solo careers after the split, rather than ending their public musical work. Beyoncé had already released Dangerously in Love in 2003, while Rowland and Williams also pursued solo recordings. Destiny’s Child reunited for selected appearances later, but those reunions did not represent a permanent return to group recording.
