Metallica's “Nothing Else Matters” became the band's first video to reach one billion YouTube views in August 2021.
The song was released as the third single from The Black Album on April 20, 1992. It is a power ballad built around James Hetfield's composition and vocals, with orchestral arrangements by Michael Kamen. Kirk Hammett does not play on the original studio recording.
The music video was filmed during the Black Album recording period in North Hollywood and premiered on MTV on February 25, 1992. It combines performance and behind-the-scenes footage from the documentary A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica.
The billion-view milestone came nearly three decades after the single's release. It should not be confused with the song's chart history: it reached number six on the UK Singles Chart and number 11 on the U.S. Album Rock Tracks chart.
