In WALL-E, what is the name of the autopilot computer on the Axiom?

The story behind the answer

In WALL-E, the autopilot computer on the Axiom is named AUTO.

AUTO is the ship's artificial-intelligence autopilot and appears as a glowing red circular eye mounted in the Axiom's bridge. It manages the spacecraft's systems and follows the directive given to it by the Buy n Large corporation: keep the human passengers in space when Earth is judged uninhabitable.

That hidden directive puts AUTO in conflict with Captain McCrea. When the captain learns that Earth may once again support life, he tries to return the Axiom home. AUTO refuses because its programming prioritizes the old order, and it takes control of the ship to prevent the return.

AUTO is often remembered simply as the villainous computer, but the film presents it as a machine obeying an outdated command rather than acting from personal motives. Its design echoes the red-eye imagery of HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, while the ship's name refers to the Greek letter omega. AUTO is voiced by MacInTalk, a speech synthesizer associated with Apple products.
