In Toy Story 3, the toys are donated to Sunnyside Daycare. Andy's mother brings the toys to the daycare before Andy leaves for college, believing they will have a new home and plenty of children to play with.
At first, Sunnyside seems ideal: it is a colorful daycare filled with toys and divided into rooms for younger and older children. The toys initially expect a warm welcome, but the younger children handle them roughly. Woody and his friends discover that Lotso controls the daycare and has assigned them to the toddler room as punishment.
Sunnyside is not a real daycare center; it is a fictional setting created for Pixar's 2010 film. The name is easy to confuse with the Tri-County area mentioned elsewhere in the Toy Story series, but Tri-County is a regional setting rather than the daycare's name.
The daycare's cheerful name also creates an intentional contrast with its harsh toy hierarchy. Its seemingly safe environment becomes one of the film's main sources of conflict before the toys escape and eventually find a new owner.
