Peg Boggs is the Avon saleswoman who discovers Edward in Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands.
Peg, played by Dianne Wiest, travels to the isolated mansion while trying to sell cosmetics. She finds Edward, an artificial man with scissors for hands, living alone after the inventor who created him dies before completing his hands. Peg brings Edward home to her suburban family, beginning his brief introduction to ordinary society.
The character provides the film’s bridge between Edward’s gothic world and the brightly colored suburb. Her kindness contrasts with the neighborhood’s fascination, gossip, and eventual hostility. Peg’s daughter Kim, played by Winona Ryder, becomes the central emotional figure in Edward’s life, but she is not the person who first finds him.
Edward Scissorhands was released in 1990 and marked Burton’s first collaboration with Johnny Depp. The film blends fairy-tale romance, suburban satire, gothic imagery, and a deliberately artificial visual design.
