In Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, Barnabas belongs to the Collins family.
Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, a wealthy eighteenth-century man cursed by the witch Angelique Bouchard. She transforms him into a vampire and buries him alive, but he is accidentally released in 1972, when his family estate and business have declined.
The film is based on the gothic television soap opera Dark Shadows, created by Dan Curtis. The Collins family and the fictional Maine town of Collinsport are central parts of that earlier series and its mythology.
Collins is sometimes confused with Collinsport, the town associated with the family. Barnabas’s surname is Collins; Collinsport is the setting. Eva Green plays Angelique, while Michelle Pfeiffer plays Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the family matriarch.
