In Tim Burton’s 2016 film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, the boy who discovers the time loop is Jake Portman.
Jake travels to a Welsh island after his grandfather’s death and finds the home described in his grandfather’s stories. There he meets Miss Peregrine and a group of children with unusual abilities, including a girl who can control fire and a boy who is invisible.
As Jake learns more, he discovers that the children live inside a repeating day intended to protect them from hostile creatures and enemies. His own developing ability allows him to perceive and confront threats that others cannot easily see.
Asa Butterfield played Jake, and Eva Green played Miss Peregrine. The film adapts Ransom Riggs’s 2011 novel, though it changes some details and combines material from the book series for its cinematic storyline.
