Victor’s dog is named Sparky in Tim Burton’s 2012 film Frankenweenie.
Sparky is Victor Frankenstein’s beloved pet bull terrier. After Sparky dies in an accident, Victor uses electricity to bring him back to life. The experiment works, but other children imitate Victor’s method and create increasingly dangerous reanimated animals.
Frankenweenie expands Burton’s 1984 live-action short film of the same name into a black-and-white stop-motion feature. Both versions parody and honor Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein while focusing on a child’s grief and devotion to a pet.
The 2012 movie features the voices of Charlie Tahan as Victor, Winona Ryder as Elsa Van Helsing, Martin Short as Victor’s father, and Catherine O’Hara as his mother. The name Sparky is a wordplay reference to electricity.
