In Tim Burton’s 2001 film Planet of the Apes, what is the name of the space station where Leo Davidson works?

The story behind the answer

Leo Davidson works aboard the space station Oberon in Tim Burton’s 2001 film Planet of the Apes.

Oberon is a United States Air Force space station used for research involving trained chimpanzees. Leo, played by Mark Wahlberg, is an astronaut who pilots a pod to rescue a chimpanzee named Pericles after the animal disappears into a dangerous electromagnetic storm. Leo’s own attempt to follow Pericles sends him into the distant future.

He eventually reaches a planet ruled by intelligent apes and populated by humans treated as an inferior species. The film’s plot gradually connects this world to the fate of Oberon and its crew. The station’s name is also a literary reference: Oberon is the king of the fairies in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Oberon is sometimes confused with the spacecraft pods used later in the story. It is the orbital research station, not Leo’s landing craft or the planet where most of the action occurs.
