In Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, the rag doll who loves Jack Skellington is Sally.
Sally lives in Halloween Town and is created by the town’s eccentric scientist, Dr. Finkelstein. Although she is made from stitched-together fabric, Sally is thoughtful, observant, and independent. She recognizes that Jack’s plan to take over Christmas is likely to cause trouble, but she struggles to make him understand.
Sally was voiced by Catherine O’Hara, while Chris Sarandon provided Jack’s speaking voice. The character’s relationship with Jack forms the emotional center of the film, balancing the story’s macabre comedy with a romantic subplot.
The Nightmare Before Christmas uses stop-motion animation and was produced and conceived by Burton, although Henry Selick directed it. The film was released in 1993 and features songs and music by Danny Elfman, who also voiced Jack’s singing.
