The Spanish heist film follows engineer Thom Johnson, who joins a team trying to recover a legendary treasure and break into the bank's supposedly impenetrable vault. The story combines an expedition for lost historical riches with a carefully timed robbery during Spain's World Cup celebrations.

Jaume Balagueró directed the film, which was released internationally as The Vault. Freddie Highmore plays Thom, and the cast also includes Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Sam Riley, Liam Cunningham, and Àlex Maruny.

Banco de España is Spain's central bank, headquartered in Madrid. The film uses the real institution and its public reputation as the basis for its thriller premise, but the vault mechanisms and robbery are fictionalized for entertainment.
