In The Score (2001), who directed the heist film starring Robert De Niro and Edward Norton?

The story behind the answer

Frank Oz directed The Score (2001), the heist film starring Robert De Niro and Edward Norton.

The film follows veteran safecracker Nick Wells, played by De Niro, who is persuaded to join a dangerous Montreal customs-house robbery. Norton plays Jack Teller, a younger thief who secretly works inside the building. Marlon Brando appears as Max, Nick’s longtime partner and fence.

The Score is notable because Frank Oz was best known before this film for puppetry, directing and performing work connected with The Muppets and Sesame Street. His feature-film directing credits also include Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and What About Bob?.

A common mix-up is to attribute The Score to a director more strongly associated with crime films, such as Michael Mann or Steven Soderbergh. Neither directed it. The film was written by Kario gen Hoshiko and Scott Marshall Smith and released in July 2001.
