In the Quran, which prophet is associated with the Ark and the Flood?

The story behind the answer

In the Quran, Nuh is the prophet associated with the Ark and the Flood.

Nuh is the Arabic name for Noah, and the Quran presents him as a messenger who warns his people and builds the Ark by God’s command. The Flood account appears in several passages, including Surah Hud, Surah Al-Mu’minun, and Surah Nuh. The Quran’s presentation is not simply a word-for-word repetition of Genesis and includes its own emphases and details.

For example, Surah Hud describes a son of Nuh who refuses to board the Ark and is overwhelmed by the waves. Islamic tradition also treats Nuh as one of the major prophets. English translations usually render his name as Noah or Nuh depending on the translator’s convention.

Ibrahim is Abraham, Musa is Moses, and Yusuf is Joseph. All are important Quranic prophets, but none is the prophet identified with the Ark.
