In the Quran, where did Noah’s Ark come to rest?

The story behind the answer

In the Quran, Noah’s Ark came to rest on Mount Judi. Surah Hud 11:44 says that the vessel settled on al-Judi after God commanded the earth to swallow its water and the sky to withhold rain.

Mount Judi, also called Cudi Dağı in Turkish usage, is traditionally identified with a mountain in southeastern Turkey near the borders of Syria and Iraq. The location belongs to Islamic tradition and differs from the “mountains of Ararat” named in Genesis.

The Quran’s account shares major elements with Genesis, including Noah’s warning, the Ark, the Flood, and the vessel’s eventual grounding. It presents the story within a wider message about faith, warning, judgment, and divine mercy.

Mount Judi should not be treated as simply another name for Mount Ararat. Ararat became the most prominent location in many later Christian and Western discussions, while Mount Judi is the specific resting place named in the Quran.
