In the Qur’an, what is the name of Noah?

The story behind the answer

In the Qur’an, Noah is called Nuh.

Nuh is the Arabic form of Noah’s name and is the central figure in several Qur’anic passages about the flood. Islamic tradition presents Nuh as a prophet who warns his people to worship God, but they reject his message. God then commands him to build the Ark, which preserves believers and pairs of creatures during the flood.

The Qur’an recounts the story in more than one chapter, including Surat Hud, Surat al-Mu’minun, and Surat Nuh. Its presentation shares major elements with the biblical account while differing in details and emphasis. One notable Qur’anic episode concerns a son of Nuh who refuses to board the Ark and is overwhelmed by the flood.

Nuh is one of the prophets recognized in Islam. Transliteration varies, so “Nuh” and “Nūḥ” may both appear in English references, while “Noah” is the familiar form in Jewish and Christian contexts.
