In the Quran, on which mountain is Noah’s Ark said to have rested?

The story behind the answer

In the Quran, Noah’s Ark is said to have rested on Mount Judi.

Surah 11:44 describes the Flood subsiding and the Ark coming to rest on al-Judi. The mountain is traditionally identified with Cudi Dağı in southeastern Turkey, near the borders of Iraq and Syria. The name is also transliterated as Judi, Jודי, or al-Jūdī in different discussions.

This location differs from the mountains of Ararat associated with the Genesis narrative. Genesis says the Ark came to rest on the “mountains of Ararat,” a regional term, while the Quran gives the name al-Judi.

Mount Judi has attracted religious traditions, local legends, and claims of Ark remains. Archaeologists and historians have not established that a surviving vessel has been found there. The Quranic place-name and the biblical regional reference should therefore not be treated as identical.
