In the Ju-On film franchise, the ghost Saeki’s first name is Kayako.
Kayako Saeki is the central ghostly figure of the Ju-On series. Her haunting begins after a violent death in the Saeki family home, and the curse spreads to people who encounter the house or become connected to its history.
The character is often recognized by her distinctive crawling movement and unsettling vocal sound. Kayako’s son, Toshio Saeki, is another recurring supernatural figure, so the two characters should not be confused when identifying the franchise’s principal ghost.
Ju-On: The Grudge was released in 2002 and directed by Takashi Shimizu. The series originated with earlier Japanese direct-to-video films before expanding into theatrical releases and American adaptations. The best-known English-language remake, The Grudge, was released in 2004 and also features Kayako.
