In the Alien film franchise, the prison planet in Alien 3 is Fiorina 161. The planet is the location of the Fiorina ‘Fury’ 161 correctional facility, where Ellen Ripley’s escape pod crash-lands after the events of Aliens.
Fiorina 161 is a remote, harsh world dominated by an industrial prison complex. The inmates live under the control of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which uses the facility for prisoners considered especially dangerous or difficult to manage. Ripley discovers that an Alien has reached the settlement and begins killing inmates.
Fiorina 161 is often confused with LV-426, also called Acheron, the moon associated with the colony in Aliens. LV-426 is not the setting of Alien 3. The planet Thedus, meanwhile, is linked to the Nostromo’s journey in the first film rather than Ripley’s prison ordeal.
Alien 3 was released in 1992 and directed by David Fincher in his feature-film debut. Its bleak setting and isolated prison community give the movie a distinct atmosphere within the franchise.
