The name of shark hunter Quint’s vessel in Jaws is Orca.
Quint, played by Robert Shaw, uses the fishing boat Orca during the hunt for the great white shark threatening Amity Island. Police chief Martin Brody and marine biologist Matt Hooper join him on the voyage, creating the film’s central trio.
The boat’s name is a fitting reference to the killer whale, a powerful marine predator. Much of the film’s second half takes place aboard Orca, where the characters argue, study the shark, and attempt to survive increasingly dangerous attacks.
The vessel is sometimes confused with the USS Indianapolis, which Quint discusses in his famous monologue. The Indianapolis was a real warship whose sinking helped inspire Quint’s account, but it is not the name of his boat. Jaws was directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1975.
