Mini Coopers are used for the famous getaway in the 1969 heist film The Italian Job.
The British comedy follows Charlie Croker, played by Michael Caine, as he leads a team planning to steal gold in Turin, Italy. After the robbery, the gang uses three red, white and blue Mini Coopers to carry the gold and escape through crowded streets, stairways and rooftops.
The cars were chosen partly because their compact size suited the film's unusually physical chase scenes. The sequence became one of the best-known car chases in British cinema and helped make the classic Mini an international pop-culture symbol.
The 1969 film was directed by Peter Collinson. A Hollywood remake, also titled The Italian Job, arrived in 2003 and used a newer generation of Mini Coopers. Although both films feature the brand, their stories, casts and settings are different.
