In The Italian Job (2003), what is Stella Bridger’s profession?

Stella Bridger is a safecracker in The Italian Job (2003).

Charlize Theron plays Stella, the daughter of veteran criminal John Bridger, portrayed by Donald Sutherland. She joins the team after the original Venice gold robbery goes wrong and helps the group break into the safe holding the stolen gold in Los Angeles. Her specialist skill is opening safes rather than driving, hacking or forging art.

Stella’s professional connection to her father is central to the film. John is an experienced safecracker who has decided to retire, while Stella has inherited his technical ability and knowledge. Their relationship gives the revenge plot an emotional dimension after Steve betrays the crew and leaves John for dead.

The film is a remake of the 1969 British film of the same name, but its characters, locations and action sequences differ substantially. The 2003 version was directed by F. Gary Gray and uses Mini Coopers prominently in its Los Angeles chase.
