Answer
He was turned to stone
In the Greek myth of Perseus, King Polydectes was turned to stone when Perseus returned with Medusa’s head. Perseus used the Gorgon’s petrifying power against the king and his companions.
Polydectes ruled the island of Seriphos and wanted to marry Danaë, Perseus’s mother. To remove Perseus, he demanded that the young hero bring him Medusa’s head, expecting the quest to be fatal. Perseus instead obtained divine help and completed the challenge.
When Perseus returned, Danaë had taken refuge from Polydectes in a temple. Perseus entered the palace and revealed Medusa’s head, petrifying Polydectes and those present. He then made Dictys, Polydectes’s brother, the new ruler of Seriphos. This episode is separate from Perseus’s later use of the head against Cetus and Atlas.
