In Greek mythology, Zeus was Perseus’s divine father and Medusa’s killer.
Perseus was conceived when Zeus approached Danaë in the form of a shower of gold. Danaë’s father, Acrisius, had been warned that her son would one day kill him, so he cast mother and child into the sea in a chest. They survived and eventually reached the island of Seriphos.
As an adult, Perseus was sent to obtain Medusa’s head. With divine assistance, he reached the Gorgons and killed Medusa without looking directly at her. Medusa was the only mortal Gorgon, while her sisters Stheno and Euryale were immortal.
Perseus’s parentage is sometimes confused because Danaë was his mortal mother and Zeus was his divine father. The sea god Poseidon was associated with Medusa and was the father of her children, Pegasus and Chrysaor, not Perseus.
