In the Genesis flood story, what was the name of Noah's wife?

The story behind the answer

In the Genesis flood story, Noah’s wife is not named.

The Book of Genesis identifies her only as Noah’s wife. She enters the ark with Noah, their sons, and their sons’ wives, but Genesis does not provide her personal name. This is why the canonical answer to a question about her name is “not named,” rather than a specific woman’s name.

Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions supplied different identifications. In some Jewish traditions, Noah’s wife is called Naamah, although that name is also used for another woman in Genesis. Other texts and commentaries offer additional names, and these traditions are not uniform.

The distinction between the biblical text and later tradition is important. Popular retellings may present one name as definitive, but the Genesis account itself does not do so. The same pattern occurs with several figures connected to the Flood: the text gives their family relationship while leaving personal details unspecified.
