In the Genesis flood story, what was the Ark’s length in cubits?

The story behind the answer

In the Genesis flood story, the Ark’s length was 300 cubits. Genesis 6:15 gives the Ark’s three principal dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.

A cubit was an ancient unit generally based on the length of a forearm, but its exact value varied by culture and period. Because Genesis does not define the cubit in modern units, the Ark’s length cannot be converted to one universally certain measurement. A commonly used estimate places 300 cubits at roughly 135 metres, or 450 feet, using an 18-inch cubit.

The dimensions produce a long, boxlike vessel rather than a conventional ship shape. Genesis emphasizes the Ark as a structure for survival and containment, not as a vessel intended for navigation. The length figure is distinct from the Ark’s width and height, which are given separately.
