In the Genesis Flood account, eight people were saved inside Noah’s Ark.
Genesis 7:13 names Noah, his wife, his three sons, and the wives of his three sons as the people who entered the Ark. Counting them gives eight humans: Noah and his wife, Shem and his wife, Ham and his wife, and Japheth and his wife. First Peter 3:20 also refers to eight people being saved through water.
The number is sometimes confused with the animals, whose count varies according to whether the text is discussing clean animals, unclean animals, birds, or the general “two of every kind” summary. The human total is much more definite in the biblical narrative.
Genesis does not give names for Noah’s wife or the wives of his sons. Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions supply various names, but those traditions are not part of the Genesis text. The answer therefore counts people without adding names that Genesis does not provide.
