In the Genesis Flood story, Noah is described as a farmer after the Flood.
Genesis 9:20 says that Noah began to be a man of the soil and planted a vineyard. Many English translations render this as “Noah, a man of the soil, began to plant a vineyard,” or more simply identify him as a farmer. The description comes after the Ark narrative and the covenant in Genesis 9.
This does not mean farming was Noah’s only activity before the Flood. Genesis focuses on his righteousness and his construction of the Ark, but it does not give him a formal pre-Flood occupation.
The vineyard episode also introduces wine into the post-Flood narrative. Noah’s farming description is therefore distinct from the traditional image of him as a builder, which is based on the Ark’s construction rather than an occupation explicitly named in the text.
