In the Genesis Flood story, what mountain range is associated with the Ark's resting place?

The story behind the answer

In the Genesis Flood story, the Ark is associated with the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 says that the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat in the seventh month. The wording refers to a mountainous region or range, not necessarily to the single modern peak commonly called Mount Ararat.

Ararat is linked with the ancient kingdom of Urartu, located around parts of eastern Anatolia and the South Caucasus. Over time, traditions and expeditions increasingly focused on Mount Ararat in present-day eastern Turkey as the ark’s possible location.

The biblical phrase does not name a precise summit. Reported discoveries and alleged ark remains have attracted attention, but no find has achieved broad scholarly acceptance as proof of the biblical vessel. The safest answer follows Genesis’s plural wording: the mountains of Ararat.
