In the Genesis Flood story, Noah’s Ark had three decks or levels.
Genesis 6:16 instructs Noah to make the ark with lower, second, and third decks. This detail appears alongside instructions for a roof, a side door, and rooms within the vessel. Together, the features describe a multi-level structure rather than a simple one-room boat.
The text does not provide a complete architectural plan or explain how people and animals were distributed among the levels. Later artists, builders, and engineers have filled in those details imaginatively when creating models or replicas.
The three-level specification is separate from the ark’s overall dimensions of 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. It also should not be confused with the number of Noah’s sons, the number of bird releases, or the seven pairs of some animals. Genesis gives three levels specifically for the vessel’s internal arrangement.
