In the Genesis flood account, Noah saw that the ground was dry when he removed the ark’s covering on the first day of the first month.
Genesis 8:13 describes Noah looking out and seeing that the surface of the ground was dry. The verse does not yet say that the entire earth was ready for departure. Noah remained in the ark until a later divine command, and Genesis 8:14 then says that the earth was dry on the twenty-seventh day of the second month.
This sequence shows that the drying process unfolded in stages. The earlier observation concerns the ground’s surface, while the later date marks the point at which the earth is described as fully dry. The passage therefore distinguishes seeing dry ground from actually leaving the ark.
