In the Genesis account, what did Noah first plant after the Flood?

The story behind the answer

In the Genesis account, Noah first planted a vineyard after the Flood. Genesis 9:20 says Noah began to be a man of the soil and planted a vineyard after the covenant and the departure from the Ark.

The passage then says Noah drank wine from the vineyard and became drunk, leading to the episode involving his sons and his tent. The planting is therefore part of the post-Flood narrative, not an action performed immediately upon leaving the Ark.

This detail is sometimes mixed up with the olive leaf brought by the dove. The olive leaf is evidence that vegetation had reappeared, but Genesis does not say Noah planted an olive tree. Nor does it identify wheat, figs, or another crop as his first planting. The specific crop named in Genesis is a vineyard, which also introduces wine into the story.
