In the Genesis account of Noah’s Ark, who built the ark before the Flood?

The story behind the answer

Noah built the ark before the Flood in the Genesis account. Genesis presents Noah as a righteous man chosen to preserve his family and representatives of the animal world from a divinely sent flood.

The story says that God instructed Noah to construct the vessel according to specified dimensions and to seal it against the water. Noah’s wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives entered the ark with him, making eight human occupants in total according to Genesis.

Noah is also central to the aftermath of the Flood. After leaving the ark, he built an altar, and Genesis describes a covenant between God and Noah. The account is part of the Hebrew Bible and is also recognized in modified forms in Christianity and Islam, where Noah is known as Nuh.
