In the Genesis account of Noah’s Ark, the ark was 50 cubits wide. Genesis 6:15 lists the vessel’s measurements as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.
The cubit was an ancient measurement whose length was not perfectly standardized. Consequently, translations and modern explanations may express the ark’s width in different modern units. A common estimate places 50 cubits at approximately 22 to 25 metres, depending on the cubit assumed.
The width is important because it helps define the ark’s overall proportions. The biblical dimensions describe a vessel six times longer than it was wide, with a broad, stable shape suited to floating rather than fast travel.
The width should not be confused with the height of 30 cubits or the length of 300 cubits. Those three figures appear together in Genesis 6:15 and are the source of most standard summaries of the ark’s size.
