In 'The Fox and the Hound', what is the name of the fox?

The story behind the answer

In The Fox and the Hound, the fox is named Tod.

Tod is a young red fox and the central character of Disney’s 1981 animated film The Fox and the Hound. After being orphaned, he is adopted and raised by Widow Tweed, who gives him his name. Tod forms an unusually close friendship with Copper, a hound puppy raised by the hunter Amos Slade.

The story’s emotional conflict comes from that friendship changing as the animals grow older. Copper is trained to track foxes, while Tod must live in the wild. Their bond is tested by the social roles and instincts that place them on opposite sides, although Tod ultimately rescues Copper during a fight with a bear.

Vixey is a female fox Tod meets later at a game reserve and becomes romantically involved with. Chief is Amos Slade’s older hunting dog, while Copper—not Tod—is the hound. The film was loosely based on Daniel P. Mannix’s 1967 novel and was released by Walt Disney Productions in 1981.
