In The Evil Dead film franchise, the hero Ash Williams’s first name is Ash.
Ash, played by Bruce Campbell, is the central character of the original Evil Dead continuity. He first appears in The Evil Dead, where a visit to a remote cabin leads to the discovery of an ancient book and the release of demonic forces.
The character’s full name is Ashley Joanna Williams, although he is almost always called Ash. Campbell’s performance helped transform Ash from an initially ordinary survivor into a wisecracking, chainsaw-wielding action-horror protagonist.
Ash returns in Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, as well as the television series Ash vs Evil Dead. The 2013 film Evil Dead is a separate story rather than a direct continuation centered on Ash, and the 2023 film Evil Dead Rise also follows different characters.
