In the Child’s Play film franchise, the killer doll is named Chucky.
Chucky is the murderous doll inhabited by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. In the first film, Ray uses a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into a Good Guys doll while fleeing the police. The doll is then given to a young boy, Andy Barclay.
The character’s full human name is Charles Lee Ray, and he is also called the Lakeshore Strangler. Chucky is the familiar name used for the doll form, so it should not be confused with the killer’s human identity or the Good Guys brand name.
The franchise began with Child’s Play in 1988 and expanded through sequels, comedy-horror entries, a 2019 remake, and the television series Chucky. Brad Dourif provided Chucky’s voice in the original continuity, helping define the character’s distinctive personality.
