In the British TV show Dragon's Den, which year did the programme first air on BBC Two?

The story behind the answer

The British TV show Dragon's Den first aired on BBC Two in 2005.

The programme premiered on 4 January 2005, adapting the format of the Japanese business reality show Money Tigers. Entrepreneurs present business ideas to wealthy investors, known as the Dragons, and seek investment in exchange for company equity.

The original UK panel included Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe. The line-up has changed repeatedly, but the central pitch-and-negotiate format has remained consistent.

Dragon's Den is sometimes confused with the later BBC One scheduling of the programme, but its original broadcast home was BBC Two. The format also inspired international versions, including the US series Shark Tank.
