In the books, which character married Robb Stark and was replaced by Talisa in the show?

Jeyne Westerling married Robb Stark in the books, while the television series replaced her with the original character Talisa Maegyr. Jeyne is the daughter of Lord Gawen Westerling and comes from House Westerling, a noble family sworn to House Lannister. Robb meets her after capturing the Crag, the Westerling stronghold.

According to the novels, Robb sleeps with Jeyne after hearing that his brothers Bran and Rickon may have been killed. He feels that abandoning her honor would make him no better than the men he is fighting, so he marries her despite his promise to wed one of Walder Frey’s daughters. The decision costs him the Freys’ political support and contributes to the disaster at the Red Wedding.

Talisa serves a similar narrative function in the show but has a different background: she is a healer from Volantis who meets Robb while treating wounded soldiers. Unlike book Jeyne, Talisa accompanies Robb openly and is pregnant when she dies at the Red Wedding.

Roslin Frey is sometimes confused with Jeyne because Edmure Tully marries Roslin during the same wedding sequence. She is not Robb’s bride.
