Noah built the Ark and led his family through the Flood in the biblical account.
The story appears chiefly in Genesis chapters 6–9. God warns Noah of a coming Flood and instructs him to construct a large vessel, bring aboard his family, and preserve land animals. Noah’s wife, his three sons, and their wives accompany him.
Noah is presented as a righteous man in a violent world. After the waters recede, he leaves the Ark, builds an altar, and receives a covenant from God. The story then turns from survival to a promise that a flood will not again destroy all life.
Noah is sometimes confused with flood survivors from other traditions, including Utnapishtim in the Epic of Gilgamesh and Ziusudra in Sumerian literature. Those figures belong to related but distinct narratives.
