Amanda Woods visits England in the 2006 film The Holiday. She travels from Los Angeles to the English countryside after swapping homes with Iris Simpkins for the Christmas holiday.
Nancy Meyers wrote and directed the romantic comedy. Cameron Diaz plays Amanda, while Kate Winslet plays Iris. The two women exchange homes through an online house-swap arrangement and each meets a new romantic partner during the holiday period.
Amanda’s destination is specifically England, where Iris’s cottage is located in the village of Shere, Surrey. The film also includes storylines in Los Angeles, so the two settings can be confused when recalling the plot. Jude Law plays Graham, Iris’s brother, and Jack Black plays Miles, a film composer who becomes connected to Iris.
