The villainous bogeyman in The Nightmare Before Christmas is Oogie Boogie.
Oogie Boogie is a burlap-sack figure filled with insects and serves as the film’s main antagonist. He lives in Oogie Boogie’s lair and enjoys gambling, danger, and tormenting others. Near the climax, he captures Santa Claus and threatens Sally before Jack Skellington confronts him.
The film was produced and conceived by Tim Burton, directed by Henry Selick, and released in 1993. Its stop-motion animation combines Halloween imagery with Christmas settings and music by Danny Elfman. Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King, but Oogie Boogie is a separate character and the principal villain.
A frequent mistake is treating Lock, Shock and Barrel as the film’s villains. They are mischievous trick-or-treaters who work for Oogie Boogie, but they are not the bogeyman himself. Their names are often listed together as Oogie’s henchchildren.
