Boris Karloff narrates and voices the Grinch in the 1966 television special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.
The animated special was adapted from Dr. Seuss's 1957 children's book and was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Karloff's deep, distinctive delivery helped define the Grinch's personality for early television audiences.
Karloff voiced the Grinch but did not sing the character's main song, “You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” That vocal performance was provided by Thurl Ravenscroft, whose name is sometimes confused with Karloff's because both performances are central to the special.
The special was directed by Chuck Jones, best known for his work on Warner Bros. cartoons. June Foray voiced Cindy Lou Who, while composer Albert Hague and lyricist Eugene Poddany contributed to the music.
