In the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street, who directed the movie?
Answer
George Seaton
Answer
George Seaton
George Seaton directed the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street.
Seaton also wrote the screenplay, adapting a story by Valentine Davies. The film follows Doris Walker, her daughter Susan, and Kris Kringle, an elderly man who claims to be the real Santa Claus. Its central conflict explores belief, commercial Christmas traditions, and the legal question of Santa’s identity.
The movie was produced by 20th Century Fox and became one of the best-known American Christmas films. Maureen O’Hara played Doris, Natalie Wood played Susan, and Edmund Gwenn played Kris Kringle. Gwenn won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
George Seaton later directed other notable films, including Country Girl and Airport. A common mix-up is confusing Seaton with the directors of later Miracle on 34th Street adaptations, including John Hughes, who wrote the 1994 remake.
