In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the playable kangaroo is Sheila. Spyro meets Sheila in the Forgotten Realms after the Sorceress’s forces capture her. By paying Moneybags to release her, Spyro unlocks sections where Sheila can be controlled directly.
Sheila’s defining ability is her powerful double jump, which lets her reach elevated platforms and areas Spyro cannot access. Her stages are designed around vertical exploration, long jumps, and navigating spaces that take advantage of her springy movement. She also assists Spyro during the fight against Buzz, one of the game’s bosses.
Sheila is one of four major critters introduced as playable characters in Year of the Dragon. The others are Sgt. James Byrd, a flying penguin armed with rockets; Bentley, a strong yeti who uses a club; and Agent 9, a monkey equipped with a laser gun. The character’s species is sometimes confused because Spyro’s cast includes many anthropomorphic animals, but Sheila is specifically identified as a kangaroo.
