In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, what is the main collectible?

The story behind the answer

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the main collectible is dragon eggs. The game begins during the Year of the Dragon, a celebration held every twelve years when new eggs arrive in the Dragon Realms. Bianca and the Rhynocs steal the eggs and scatter them across the Forgotten Realms, giving Spyro his central quest.

Players recover eggs by finding hidden areas, completing level objectives, winning minigames, and helping characters throughout the adventure. The game contains 150 eggs in total, although not every egg is required to reach the main ending. Some become accessible only after Spyro gains new abilities or returns to earlier levels.

Gems are also widespread collectibles, but they primarily pay Moneybags and contribute to completion percentage. Talismans and orbs belong mainly to Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, while dragon eggs define Year of the Dragon’s story and progression. The eggs also connect directly to the Sorceress’s plan: she wants to exploit the baby dragons’ wings to restore magic and gain immortality.
