In Skyfall, what name is revealed for Bond's superior M?

In Skyfall, Bond’s superior M is revealed to be named Gareth Mallory.

The revelation comes after M is killed during the film’s climax. Mallory, played by Ralph Fiennes, is the Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee and has spent much of the story scrutinising M’s leadership of MI6. After her death, he becomes the new M and inherits the office associated with the head of the Secret Intelligence Service’s operations.

The name creates an important link between the film’s political oversight and its espionage setting. Mallory is not simply a new codename for Bond’s previous boss; he is a separate character who initially challenges M before becoming her successor. Fiennes continued playing Mallory as M in later films, including Spectre and No Time to Die.

Viewers sometimes confuse Gareth Mallory with Miles Messervy, the full name of the earlier M played by Bernard Lee. They are different characters from different stages of the film series.
